Abstract

A new method for the preparation of aldehydes and ketones from alkylnitrites and BF₂.Et₂O or anhydrous ZnCl₂ is described. Twelve different nitrites were tested obtaining yields over 90%. When these Lewis acids were substituted by anhydrous AlCl₃, the yield decreased to a value below 20%.
