N2 - The kinetic decompositon of β' phase in Zn-22wt.%Al, Zn-30wt.%Al and Zn-40%wt.Al alloys was analyzed during isothermal aging. In order to retain β phase, the samples were maintained at 223 K and analyzed using X ray diffraction (XRD). XRD occurred in a diffractometer with a monochromated Cu Kα radiation. The spinodal decomposition occurs at room temperature on isolated zones of the η phase. The β phase cannot be retained at room temperature and is transformed into a mixture of α and η phases following the eutectoid reaction.
