Research Interests

Our studies focus on understanding the virulence strategies of limited phloem bacteria (Candidatus Liberibacter and Candidatus Phytoplasma) and aim to decipher the plant-pathogen interaction process that could be used to develop mitigation strategies for high-value crop diseases.

Current projects in development:

  1. Transcriptome analysis of miRNA and mRNA in Mexican lime infected with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus.
  2. Design of artificial microRNAs for the induction of HLB tolerance in Mexican lime.
  3. Tomato-Ca Liberibacter solanacearum model system for elucidating the role of microRNAs associated with HLB in Mexican lime.
  4. Genomic diversity of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus and endosymbionts associated with Huanglongbing disease (HLB) in Mexican lime.
  5. Evaluation of bioproducts (in field and greenhouse) for HLB mitigation using real-time PCR to evaluate the bacterial titer decreasing associated with the product effect.
  6. Identification of the mode of action of bioproducts for the management of agricultural pests through the evaluation of defense genes.

Research interests
